Breadth and Depth
The prep curriculum is designed to provide a well-rounded education that challenges and inspires pupils while nurturing their individual strengths. With a strong emphasis on academic excellence, our curriculum integrates core subjects such as English, Maths, and Science, and Humanities, alongside a wide range of creative lessons such as Music Drama, Art and Design Tech, balanced with a healthy programme of daily sport, and plenty of time to learn outdoors either on the farm during Rural Studies, or in Outdoor Education lessons.

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind
Our sporting curriculum plays a key role in promoting both physical health and mental well-being at The Elms. We believe in the principle of “healthy body, healthy mind,” where daily physical activity not only supports fitness but also boosts concentration, resilience, and emotional health. Our pupils engage in a variety of sports, from team games like Rugby, Hockey, Football, Netball, and Cricket and to individual sports like Swimming, Tennis, Athletics, and Riding, which enable them to build teamwork, discipline, and confidence. Whether it’s through competitive matches or fun, informal play, sport at The Elms encourages children to stay active, work together, and develop the skills they need for a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Creativity
Our creative curriculum encourages pupils to explore their artistic and imaginative potential across a wide range of disciplines. From Art and Design Technology to Music and Drama, we provide a rich and varied environment where creativity thrives. Pupils engage in hands-on projects that stimulate their critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovative skills. Whether designing and building in the workshop, expressing themselves through drama and musical performances, or developing their artistic talents, children are encouraged to think outside the box and embrace their unique abilities. Every child participates in stage productions plus musical concerts, such as our annual ElmsFest.

Farming Life
Rural Studies lessons offer a unique and immersive learning experience on our working farm. Pupils learn essential skills in agriculture, sustainability, and the business of farming. As part of the curriculum, children learn about animal husbandry and environmental stewardship, while also gaining insight into the business aspects of farming. Through these lessons, pupils explore the financial side of farming, from budgeting, pricing and marketing to the challenges of running a small-scale agricultural business. The highlight of the Autumn term is our very own agricultural show.

The Great Outdoors
Outdoor education lessons at provide children with a toolkit of essential life skills while immersing themselves in nature. Activities like map reading, foraging, fire lighting and campouts allow pupils to learn practical skills. The curriculum fosters independence and problem-solving, while encouraging children to step outside their comfort zones during their outdoor adventures.

Learning Support
At The Elms, we take pride in our inclusive approach, ensuring that all children, regardless of their individual needs, have access to the tailored support that allows them to excel academically, socially, and emotionally. We provide comprehensive support for children with learning challenges, ensuring that every pupil receives the care and attention they need to thrive. Our approach integrates exceptional teaching with strong pastoral support, ensuring that all children feel confident, valued and included. For those who require additional support, we offer targeted interventions, whether through small group work or one-to-one sessions with highly skilled specialists.
