The Farm

On The Farm we are fortunate enough to have a prize winning herd of Hereford cattle, Gloucester old spot pigs, free range chickens and horses.  The children participate in showing the cattle and pigs at both local and national shows and have an enviable record of success. Prizes have been won at the Three Counties Show, The Royal Welsh and The Royal Berkshire Show amongst others.

Rural Studies is a curriculum subject where the children learn about crops and plants and animal husbandry. Each class has its own plot and individuals also have the opportunity to create a plot for themselves (with a little bit of guidance!). One of the highlights for the children is the arrival of any new born animal on the farm and the occasional lesson has been missed due to the sow farrowing!

Learning to care for animals and plants gives children the chance to understand the need to care for things in order for them to flourish and grow. Taking responsibility is the key and in the days of ever increasing food prices we even give them a head start in small holding!
