Sports

The aim of sport at The Elms is to encourage children of all abilities to enjoy, and have the opportunity to play a variety of sports.

Games sessions take place every afternoon with matches predominantly being played on Wednesdays and Saturdays for a variety of age groups.

The extensive sports facilities including pitches, sports hall, swimming pool and the addition of the new astro-turf are utilised to the full. The experienced team coaches will focus on specific skills throughout the year preparing for the games provided during the different seasons. For girls these are: hockey, netball, tennis and rounders. For boys these are: Rugby, hockey, football and cricket.

In addition to the main sports, athletics is also part of the curriculum with the yearly entry into the Mercian athletics competition. Swimming coaching is also offered to children throughout the school by a specialist swimming coach.

As well as daily games sessions, PE takes place with a strong emphasis on individual skills in the weekly lesson.

Another opportunity for children is to take part in Triathlons (pistol shooting, swimming and running) in the two winter terms and Tetrathlon (shooting, swimming, running and riding) in the summer term. Training goes on all year round with children striving to improve on their personal best scores and compete as a team.
