Learning Support

One of the aims of The Elms Learning Support Department is to enable all children to have full access to all elements of the school curriculum. Often children need a range of different teaching approaches to some degree or other in order to achieve this. The job of the LS department is to identify the difficulty, assess the need, and use experienced tutors to put in place structured programmes of work that will stimulate progress and develop strategies to deal with the difficulty/difficulties. A vital part of this work is to nurture self- confidence and self-belief through finding the child's strengths and celebrating them. The LS department works in harmony with the teaching staff and is, of course, in close contact with parents at every stage of the process.

Some children in our school display outstanding gifts and talents. We endeavour to cater for all their needs in a variety of ways: promoting them through the school; engaging in more challenging work and with those who have exceptional talents in music, fine arts and sport by encouraging their participation in a wide variety of competitions, examinations, regional and national events-in fact any way in which their particular talent can be displayed.
