Academic
"Excellent attitudes to their work also contribute to pupils' academic achievement, as do their exemplary behaviour and their excellent relationships with each other and their teachers." ISI Report 2011
At The Elms we keep our classes small so that each child has the opportunity to fulfil their potential. Every effort is made to ensure that pupils receive appropriate and stimulating teaching, with the emphasis on "learning for life". Our high quality curriculum prepares pupils up to and beyond the 13+ Common Entrance examinations. We embrace the National Curriculum where deemed appropriate to our needs, but we are not bound by it. Our pupils comprise a very mixed ability entry, but nevertheless their successes at public examination level indicate the high standards that we are able to achieve together. Our curriculum is broad, and includes English, Mathematics, Science, French, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Latin, Art, Music, Design & Technology, PSHE and Rural Studies. We continually monitor the efforts of our pupils and the weekly scrutiny of their work is a fundamental tool for this. Their progress is monitored and assessed regularly and information is communicated to parents both formally and informally.
